Elon Musk’s SpaceX is being prepared for its third Moon landing mission of 2025.
The company is set to launch the Intuitive Machines IM-2 mission, making it the third lunar lander to journey toward the Moon in what promises to be a landmark year for lunar exploration.
Scheduled for liftoff on February 26, 2025, the mission will utilize a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket to deliver the Athena lander to the lunar surface. This launch continues SpaceX’s series of successful missions, reinforcing efforts to establish a sustainable presence on the Moon.
The IM-2 mission holds great significance as it advances NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program, which is dedicated to delivering scientific payloads to the Moon.
Houston-based Intuitive Machines has played a significant role in this initiative, with the Athena lander designed to transport multiple payloads for a range of scientific experiments.
The launch is set to take place from Cape Canaveral, Florida, where preparations are already in progress.

This launch is being done after SpaceX’s recent achievements in deploying two other lunar landers, Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost and Japan’s ispace Resilience, earlier in January.
